Do you love sewing and want to sell makes made from an Opian sewing pattern? Our sewing pattern licensing system allows you to sell handmade clothing and accessories to friends, family, or private clients, provided you comply with the terms of use set by Opian.
This license is designed for individuals who wish to turn a personal sewing project into a handcrafted item for sale.
To sell a garment or accessory made from an Opian sewing pattern, you must own the corresponding pattern and purchase a license suited to the number of items you wish to produce.
Every item sold must feature an Opian label sewn into the garment or accessory. The label clearly identifies that an Opian pattern was used under our licensing system.
The license is available in three formats: 5, 10, or 20 labels. The number of labels purchased corresponds to the number of garments or accessories you can produce and sell under the license.
The license authorises you to sell garments and accessories you create yourself using Opian sewing patterns, subject to the conditions specified below.
The sewing pattern is not included in the license, itmust be purchased separately from the Opian online store.
You may then craft the items and offer them to your personal circle or private clientele. Opian charges no commission on sales of items made under this license.
The selling price for each garment or accessory is determined solely by the maker.
Developing a sewing pattern involves months of work: design, pattern development, grading, prototyping, and writing instructions.
The Opian license allows makers who wish to sell their creations to do so within a clear framework, while respecting the work involved in creating the patterns.
Makes must be handmade using artisanal methods. The license is intended for small-batch production and the sale of items crafted directly by the person using the pattern.
To use an Opian license and sell your creations, the following rules apply:
• The sewing pattern for the model must be purchased separately from the Opian online store, it is not included in the license.
• Garments and accessories must be handmade using artisanal methods.
• An Opian label (available on the website) must be sewn into every garment or accessory sold.
• Industrial production or production by a third party is prohibited.
• Selling a garment or accessory made from an Opian pattern under a different brand name is prohibited. A designer with their own brand cannot use Opian patterns to produce a collection under their brand.
• A license is not required to give a finished item as a gift.
• Opian doesn't charge a commission on sales of items made under the license.
• The selling price of the garment or accessory is set entirely by the maker.
• Licenses do not cover the hosting of sewing workshops using Opian sewing patterns. To organise a workshop using our patterns, please contact us directly.
The Opian label is made of organic cotton and measures 6 × 2 cm unfolded and 3 × 2 cm folded.
It features raw edges that do not fray. It is machine-washable and will not shrink or fade.
Depending on your project, you can:
• insert it folded into a seam;
• cut it in half and sew it inside the garment;
• cut it in half and use it on the outside of the finished item.
Every garment or accessory sold must bear an Opian label, in accordance with the license terms.
Opian offers three license tiers based on the number of items you wish to make and sell:
License 5 — up to 5 items
License 10 — up to 10 items
License 20 — up to 20 items
Choose the tier that corresponds to the number of garments or accessories you plan to make.
