Basics of pattern making

When buying a sewing pattern, some modifications are needed to adapt the model to your own morphology. Here are the basics about pattern making to help you fit your sewing pattern.

 

Taking measurement

To take your measurements correctly, you should only have your underwear on. Spread the legs about twenty centimeter wide and keep your feet parallel. Hold the tape measure against the body without tighten.

  • Bust: the widest part of the bust
  • Waist: the point where you bend
  • Hips: the widest part of the hips

The bodice

The skirt

The trousers

  • Shorten or lengthen the legs
  • Shorten the riser
  • Increase the length of the crotch
