Opian | 9th anniversary |

Like every 5th August, I'm taking a moment to reflect on the past year, and this time Opian is already celebrating its 9th anniversary!

The last two years haven't been easy, it's true. I've noticed a significant decline in sales and interest in home sewing. This seems to be affecting many small businesses and designers around me. I think it's particularly difficult in Switzerland to make a full living from creative crafts, which is why I have a day job alongside Opian. It allows me to continue creating without pressure, and above all... to continue at all. But I still ask myself the question: should this business evolve, change, or stop...

Indeed, the sewing kits, for example, are a project that is particularly close to my heart. I thought about it for a long time before launching it, and I truly believe in this product. The kits are made of quality materials, with exclusive designs created by a talented local designer or from deadstocks of Swiss swimwear brands. Even if the sales of the kits haven't been as successful as I'd hoped, they remain an important product for me, and I'm convinced they deserve to be seen, sewn, and worn. Produced in small quantities, they allow you to have a particularly original swimsuit that's not seen elsewhere.

I'm also not the queen of marketing, and promoting Opian is the part that takes the most time and that I find the most difficult. I don't like showing myself in photos, let alone videos, and the need to document or film every step for social media isn't what motivates me most.

And despite these challenges, I'm happy with how far I've come and to celebrate everything that's been accomplished! Ultimately, my favorite part is what I do today with Opian. That is, imagining a garment and making it from A to Z: research and development, design drawing, pattern making, grading, writing instructions, all the way to the final layout of the pattern. Being involved in every step allows me to create pieces I love to wear and to share with you my complete vision of clothing, far removed from assembly line work or monotonous tasks.

This year, I had the pleasure of launching two new patterns: the TOMÜL and VEISIVI swimsuits. I love imagining, designing, and wearing these designs, and I'm thrilled to be able to share them with you!

I also love connecting with you on Instagram and in person: your feedback, photos, and messages make this adventure so much more beautiful. So I really encourage you to share your creations using the patterns I've created and to comment, as your feedback is invaluable and motivates me to continue.
