Discover the behind-the-scenes process of creating a dress for a wedding

FIRST BODICE TOILE

Good start, but I decided to lengthen it and modify the sleeves for more fullness.

SECOND TOILE

I unpicked everything, added scraps of fabric where needed, cut and sewed again.

This second bodice toile was approved, so I was able to calculate the circle skirt fullness to match the bodice and decide on the gathers.

THIRD TOILE

With the trousers underneath, the toile fabric, and the unfinished edges... you have to have the vision!

After this fitting, I added a few more gathers to the skirt.

RESULT

I was able to go to the wedding in a unique dress fresh off the sewing machine!

It’s a real development process that takes time. For this project, I’m at about 30 hours of work between the handmade pattern, the alterations, the sewing, and writing the instructions.

Tell me if you would like this model, the Génépi dress (yes, I have already chosen the name!), for a future pattern!
